Live Music & Entertainment in Sarasota — The Complete Guide

  • 3 min read

Sarasota's live music scene doesn't get nearly enough credit. Sure, everyone knows about Van Wezel and the opera, but dig a little deeper and you'll find a city full of jazz clubs, acoustic sets in wine bars, open mic nights that actually have talent, and local bands that could hold their own in any market. The trick is knowing where to look.

Consider this your cheat sheet.

Live Music Venues in Sarasota: The Complete Rundown

Vino Bistro — Rosemary District (Wine Bar + Live Music)

We host live music four nights a week in a converted old theater in the Rosemary District. The setup is intimate — no bad seats, and the performers are close enough that you can see the expression on the guitarist's face when they nail a solo. Here's our weekly schedule:

  • Tuesday Night Jazz — Robbie Rose and guest musicians play jazz standards and originals. This has become one of Sarasota's best-kept secrets for midweek dates.

  • Friday Night Live — Rotating lineup of local and regional performers. Genres range from acoustic soul to classic rock to everything in between.

  • Saturday Night Live — Our biggest night. Full bands, higher energy, and a crowd that's ready to have a good time.

  • Open Mic Nights — Periodic open mic events where anyone can sign up and perform. Some of the best moments we've had at the bistro came from open mic nights — unexpected talent has a way of showing up.

The combination of wine, tapas, and live music in a former theater space is genuinely unique in Sarasota. There's no cover charge, which means you can come for dinner and the music is just part of the evening.

Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall

Sarasota's landmark venue on the bayfront. Van Wezel books national touring acts, Broadway shows, comedians, and orchestral performances. It's the big-ticket venue in town. If you're going, read our guide to restaurants near Van Wezel for pre-show dining ideas.

Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe

One of only a handful of professional Black theater companies in the Southeast. WBTT produces musicals, plays, and cabaret shows in the Rosemary District — walking distance from Vino Bistro. The talent here is consistently outstanding. We wrote a guide to restaurants near Westcoast Black Theatre if you want dinner recommendations.

Other Live Music Spots Worth Knowing

The Blue Rooster: Southern food and live blues/rock/jazz most nights. A Sarasota institution with a loyal following.

Mattison's City Grille: Live music on the patio downtown. More background-music vibes than a dedicated music venue, but still enjoyable.

Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center: Eclectic booking that ranges from folk to spoken word. Small venue, big personality.

Live Music in Sarasota Tonight: How to Find What's Playing

The challenge with live music in Sarasota isn't that there's too little — it's that information is scattered. Here's how to find what's happening on any given night:

  • Vino Bistro's event calendar — Updated weekly with our full lineup and RSVP links.

  • GoTonight.com — Aggregates live music listings across Sarasota venues.

  • Sarasota Magazine's events section — Covers bigger shows and special events.

  • Instagram — Follow your favorite venues directly. Most post their weekly lineups on social.

Jazz in Sarasota: A Growing Scene

Sarasota's jazz scene is small but genuine. Tuesday Night Jazz at Vino Bistro has become a weekly destination for jazz lovers — Robbie Rose brings in guest musicians who rotate, so the setlist is never the same twice. It's the kind of night where you show up for a glass of wine and end up staying for the whole set because the music is just that good.

For bigger jazz events, keep an eye on the Sarasota Jazz Festival and special performances at the Van Wezel. But for a regular Tuesday evening with great jazz, good wine, and no pretension? That's us.

Your Next Night Out in Sarasota Starts Here

Sarasota has more live music than most people realize. From intimate jazz sets and acoustic performers at wine bars to full-scale productions at Van Wezel and WBTT, there's something for every taste and every night of the week. The hardest part is choosing where to go.

Check Vino Bistro's event calendar to see who's playing this week. No cover charge, great wine, incredible tapas, and live music in a space that was literally built for performances. See you in the Rosemary District.
